In today’s digital world, having basic tech skills is essential. Our Skills Workshops are designed to help people of all ages and backgrounds feel confident using technology. From writing emails and navigating the internet to online safety and file management, our hands-on workshops cover the skills you need to thrive in a digital society.

Device Upcycling

Did you know that millions of devices are thrown away each year, even though many can be repaired and reused? At Geek Cafe, we’re on a mission to reduce e-waste and bridge the digital divide through our Device Upcycling Program. We collect unwanted or broken devices, refurbish them, and distribute them to low-income families, schools, and community groups.

Abdul built me a new computer after my old one finally crashed. Really happy with my new machine and such a nice helpful man. Geek Cafe also take old computers to refurbish which has saved me a trip to the recycling centre and contributed to a good

Our Vision

Short Term

We plan to reach our 2025 target to provide the Leytonstone community with 3000 computers for free. This includes children from low income families, refugee families and a women’s group for domestic violence

Long Term

Scale London: Launch across Waltham Forest and wider London. Engage with government and partners to integrate digital and repair into other areas. Changing Mindsets: Promote a culture where people learn to repair, reuse, and innovate, combating the throwaway mentality.
Tech Industry Partners: Work closely with tech industry partners to support the skills development required to succeed in the modern workforce.

Action Plan

Kick off a newly funded technology initiative to teach computer repairs in the local Leytonstone community

Planning in progress to start an e-waste management and repair initiative to upcycle computers for other Waltham Forest charity
groups

Initiative being planned to work with a local female domestic violence group to teach digital skills to return to the workforce

Recruit facilitators. Mobilise a team of tech experts and volunteers.

Source old computers from wider sources: Collect old or broken computers from local businesses and communities.

Launch redistribution program: Provide refurbished computers to low-income families, community centres, charities and schools.

Conduct workshops: Teach basic repairs, upgrade, upcycling techniques as well as digital skills to navigate around a computer.

Start launch regular workshops in local Leytonstone community spaces and wider Waltham Forest

Partnerships with 3 local schools and 3 senior centres and community centres for ongoing workshops.

Train 1000 Waltham Forest residents Save 1500 devices from landfills and repair 3000 computers for the community

Build business partnerships for public and private sector partners including tech companies and local businesses for digital skills
guidance, donations and mentorship
